History
The Wilson County 4-H Dog Project Group started with it's first meeting on April 6, 2006. From our very first meeting our goal has been to reach Wilson County students with an animal based program that almost any child can particiate in. The Wilson County 4-H Program has very strong Livestock and Horse project groups. These animal based programs develop responsible, confident and capable leaders. Through the Dog Project group we are able to offer the same great experiences to all Wilson County 4-H members.
How To Get Involoved
To become a member of the Dog Project Group simply attend one of our monthly meetings and fill out an enrollment form. Any student grades 4th through 12th are eligible to participate. The group holds regular monthly meetings on the 2nd Thursday of each month. We meet at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center (Wilson County Fairgrounds). Meetings normally start at 6:30 PM and run until around 8:00 PM.
What can you do in the Dog Group?
The Dog Group offers many opportunities for 4-H members to learn and grow. At our regular monthly meetings we elect officers, have guest speakers including veterinarians, groomers, and trainers come and speak to the group about different dog topics. We also have Obedience, Showmanship, and Agility Workshops. In addition to these programs we have a County Dog Show our members can compete in as well as a State Dog Show.
Upcoming Events
On Saturday, October 24th we will be holding our 4th annual Wilson County 4-H Dog Show. This show is open to all 4-H members in any county in Tennessee.
